The Box, Plymouth

The Box, Plymouth, holds a large and important art collection which includes more than 800 paintings. The works date from the sixteenth century to the present, featuring a range of artists from Tiepolo to Burne-Jones to Kurt Jackson.

With Plymouth’s unique location on the border between Devon and Cornwall, the collection has been developed to reflect the rich artistic heritage of south-west England. It includes a wealth of portraits, maritime, landscape and coastal scenes. Works by important members and contemporaries of the nineteenth-century Newlyn School and twentieth-century St Ives and Camden Town Schools are also a key part of the collection.
