Loppé, Gabriel, 1825–1913
Gabriel Loppé (1825–1913) was a painter, photographer, mountaineer and the first French member of the Alpine Club. Loppé made many oil sketches from alpine summits, including views from Mont Blanc, which he ascended over forty times. His dedication to painting at high altitudes earned him status as the founder of the peintres-alpinistes school.
This view from Mont Blanc takes in the 4,000-metre peaks in the distance all the way to the Matterhorn and the Monte Rosa massif in Zermatt, Switzerland. Choose from a wide range of frames to complement this spectacular print.
