National Portrait Gallery, London

Founded in 1856 and located just off Trafalgar Square, the National Portrait Gallery is home to the largest collection of portraiture in the world. The Gallery weaves together 500 years of history, art, biography and fame to offer a unique and fascinating insight into those individuals that together characterise a nation.

The collection includes paintings by artists such as John Singer Sargent, Van Dyck, Hogarth and Reynolds, but also photographs of the great and the good, from Queen Victoria to David Bowie, many of which are available to purchase as prints on the Art UK Shop.
