Livestock portraiture at The Museum of English Rural Life
Gift ranges
Of the many collections shared from The MERL’s social media feeds, few prove more routinely popular than its charming yet outrageously proportioned livestock portraiture. Predominantly painted in the eighteenth and nineteenth century, these artworks were a means for farmers to celebrate their accomplishments in selective breeding, often in rather hyperbolic fashion. And you can now celebrate them too in this selection of MERL merchandise.
