Dr Ian Massey is a UK-based independent art historian, writer and curator. He is the biographer of the artist Patrick Procktor RA, and has also written substantially on the work of Keith Vaughan and John Blackburn. Among the many other artists he has written about are David Tindle, Sandra Blow and Brendan Neiland. His most recent book is Queer St Ives and Other Stories, published in 2022 by Ridinghouse. He is currently working on a book about the artist Mark Lancaster.

Amongst publications Ian has written for are Sight and Sound, The Art Newspaper, The Burlington Magazine and The World of Interiors. He has given public talks at venues including The Whitworth, Manchester; Abbot Hall Gallery, Kendal, and The Royal Watercolour Society, London. He is also a regular contributor to the St Ives September Festival.

Ian has curated exhibitions for Huddersfield Art Gallery, Arts University Bournemouth, and The Redfern Gallery, London. He is currently involved in a curatorial project with Tate St Ives.
