Christopher Baker is the Editor of The Burlington Magazine and an Hon. Professor at Edinburgh University. He served for ten years as a Director at the National Galleries of Scotland, with responsibility for the collection and programme at the National Gallery and Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh; he has also worked at Christ Church, Oxford, and the National Gallery in London.

He has curated numerous exhibitions on British art of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and Old Master paintings and drawings in the UK and internationally. His publications include Liotard: A Portrait of Eighteenth-century Europe (2023), J. M. W. Turner: The Vaughan Bequest (revised edition, 2019), Landseer: The Monarch of the Glen (2017), and the Catalogue of English Drawings and Watercolours 1600–1900, National Gallery of Scotland (2011). He co-edited Collecting Prints and Drawings in Europe, c.1500–1800 (2003) and co-authored The National Gallery Complete Illustrated Catalogue (1995).
