Jenny Gaschke studied Art History, Archaeology and English Literature in Freiburg, Glasgow and Berlin. After completing her PhD on British artists in early nineteenth-century Greece in 2003, she gained professional experience as assistant curator at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart. From 2005 until 2012 Jenny worked at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, first as Curator of Prints and Drawings and then as Curator of Art. She worked as Curator of Art pre-1900 at Bristol Museum & Art Gallery from 2012 until 2021, when she joined the Victoria and Albert Museum as Senior Curator, Paintings and Drawings.
Jenny's specialisms are European landscape painting 1600–1900 and the Bristol School. She has curated exhibitions including 'Turmoil and Tranquillity: the Sea Through the Eyes of Dutch and Flemish Masters', on William Hogarth and early watercolours by J. M. W. Turner. She has published catalogues, monographs and articles on a wide range of subjects such as art and travel, Edward Lear in Egypt and the Bristol School's attitude to nature.
