This curation celebrates Women's History Month bringing together paintings and sculptures by women artists in the Ferens collection. The selection presents a variety of subjects and artistic styles from realist and figurative works to conceptual art and abstraction. There are many familiar names, artists firmly placed in the canons of art history, alongside lesser known artists whose creativity is still to be fully uncovered - Victorian trailblazers Elizabeth Butler and Rosa Bonheur, 20th century modernists among them Nina Hamnett, Ithell Colquhoun, Eileen Agar and Barbara Hepworth, and artists who have made their mark in more recent decades. Artists working in new media, photography, and works on paper are not represented in this display.
