This curation takes its title from an exhibition held at Southampton City Art Gallery in 2022. It presented new acquisitions, that made Southampton the only public collection to hold work by four generations of the Hitchens family:
Alfred Hitchens, painter, 1861 – 1942, brother-in-law of Howard Seth-Smith, architect, 1852 – 1928, and father of Ivon Hitchens, painter, 1893 - 1979, father of John Hitchens, painter, born 1940, father of Simon Hitchens, sculptor, born 1967
The occasion for presenting this album are two current exhibitions:
John Hitchens: Wood - Sand - Stone, Weald & Downland Museum, West Sussex, to Oct. 30th, and
Simon Hitchens: Parallels, Somerset Rural Life Museum, Glastonbury, to Dec. 2nd
