Still life occupies a very important part of the work of the Scottish Colourist Samuel Peploe (1871-1935). This is especially so after his return from Paris in 1910, and his still lives from this period onwards strongly remind me of the solid compositions in the still lives of Paul Cezanne. I particularly love the combination of flowers and vases with a single piece of fruit or bowls of fruit.
