UCL Art Museum has its origins as a teaching and research collection tied to the history of the Slade School of Art at University College London. As the Slade was the first school to admit women, a large number of works by women artists entered into this public collection through the Slade prize system, and today 45% of the Slade Collections comprises of work by women artists. There are additionally works by teachers at the Slade and other important figures in the history of Modern British Art in the 20th Century.
