The Fine Art Collection at The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery grew out of a bequest of Impressionist paintings from Dr John Russell, in 1927 who had attached a condition that the Corporation of Stoke-on-Trent 'provide a building or part of a building to be set apart for the reception and storage of pictures and to be maintained as an Art Gallery'. Strengths are in early 20th Century British art, including figures associated with the Bloomsbury and Camden Town Groups. The Collection has the strongest holdings anywhere of John Currie and includes many paintings of note of the local townscape. Developed in association with Grant Waters, Art Detective Group Leader: South East England, East England and the Midlands.

Artists featured in this Curation: Eileen Agar (1899–1991), Harry Epworth Allen (1894–1958), Adrian Paul Allinson (1890–1959), Michael Ayrton (1921–1975), Robert Polhill Bevan (1865–1925), Rosa K. Blake (1882–1962), Frank Brangwyn (1867–1956), Gerald Leslie Brockhurst (1890–1978), Charles William Brown (1882–1961), Amy Katherine Browning (1881–1978), and 61 more
