The Hunterian, Scotland’s oldest public museum, at the University of Glasgow, was established through the bequest of William Hunter (1718–1783). The first Hunterian Museum opened in 1807 and in 1980 the art collections were provided with the purpose-built Hunterian Art Gallery at the centre of the campus. The gallery's collection includes a large number of the works of James McNeill Whistler and the majority of the watercolours of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, as well as having the largest print collection in Scotland. It is in its holdings of artworks by Scottish artists from the Scottish Colourists onwards that makes The Hunterian one of the strongest 20th Century artwork collections in Scotland.

Artists featured in this Curation: John Duncan Fergusson (1874–1961), Alexander Allan (1914–1972), Louise Gibson Annand (1915–2012), Mary Nicol Neill Armour (1902–2000), Charles Cameron Baillie (1903–1968), John Byrne (1940–2023), Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell (1883–1937), David Young Cameron (1865–1945), Steven Campbell (1953–2007), Cecil Collins (1908–1989), and 54 more
