Opened in 1850 with Queen Victoria and Prince Albert as patrons, Salford Museum & Art Gallery has a large Victorian art collection. For much of the 20th Century it was long associated with artworks by L.S. Lowry before they were transferred to the Lowry Centre in Salford in 2000. However, it would be wrong to think that the 20th Century Collection has been left hollowed out. It has a small but significant body of artworks by artists well-known at a national and regional level.

Artists featured in this Curation: Marion Elizabeth Adnams (1898–1995), Eileen Agar (1899–1991), Michael Ayrton (1921–1975), Ernst Barlach (1870–1938), Maxwell Bates (1906–1980), Vanessa Bell (1879–1961), John Bold (1895–1979), Brian Bradshaw (1923–2016), Frank Brangwyn (1867–1956), Argent Brierley (1893–1960), and 59 more
