Located within Reading Town Hall, Reading Museum cares for an art collection comprising 8,000 works, particularly strong on 20th Century British art, and housed in galleries orginally added to the museum in 1897. The original founding collection of 19th Century paintings, given by William Isaac Palmer (of Huntley & Palmer biscuit fame) have been augmented by acquisitions of works by nationally important artists including Paul Nash, John Piper and Stanley Spencer. The strength of the holdings has been immeasurably helped over the last fifty years from 1974 through the Reading Foundation for Art, founded to create a collection of works to be cared for by the Reading Museum service.

Artists featured in this Curation: Michael Ayrton (1921–1975), Evelyn Fothergill Abbot (1872–1940), Gilbert Adams (1906–1996), John Alford (b.1929), Giulio Bagnoli (1927–1978), Noel Gregory Baguley (1898–1980), Walter Bayes (1869–1955), Robert Polhill Bevan (1865–1925), David Bomberg (1890–1957), John Randall Bratby (1928–1992), and 54 more
