A winter landscape looking across a broad expanse of frozen water, with groups of people skating and moving around the ice. In the foreground to the left, four figures stand around a hole in the ice, and a man to the right is pulling up a fishing net while the others look on. Behind them to their right, two figures also watch, one standing next to and one seated on a sledge, with a bucket and pile of fish next to them. In centre foreground, a man and woman skate together, both wearing wide brimmed hats, the woman wearing a red over-skirt. They skate towards a man to the right carrying a large basket on his head and a dead bird in his hand. A third skater stands to the right of him. On the far right, three figures are gathered around barrels and a sledge, two of the group are pouring the contents of a barrel into another vessel.
