the date: MDCCV111 (1808) is carved on the canopy above Sir Samuel Bignold (this is the date of the founding of the Life Assurance Company by Thomas Bignold, the Fire Assurance having being founded in 1797). MDCCVI (1706) the date of the founding of the Amicable Society is carved on the canopy above Bishop Talbot; under the statue of Sir Samuel Bignold: SIR SAMUEL BIGNOLD KT / SECRETARY / NORWICH UNION LIFE OFFICE / 1815-1875.; under statue of Bishop Talbot: RT. REV. WILLIAM TALBOT D.D / BISHOP OF OXFORD / A FOUNDER OF THE / AMICABLE SOCIETY / 1706
