This is the largest of four paintings made between 1996 and 1997 of the same view out of a bedroom window where the artist lived at the time, in Nottingham Road, Mansfield. The image began highly detailed, showing cracks in the brickwork, moss in the mortar, the garden and external buildings, but over time became less about the scene and more about the diffused and glaring light.
