English Anglican clergyman Webb Ellis is thought to be the supposed inventor of rugby football, while a pupil at Rugby School. The sculpture depicts the figure of a young man in a running pose, dressed in trousers, shirt and waistcoat, and clutching a rugby ball to his chest.
