The sitter was a student at Queen's. He gained his MA in 1679, became Fellow from 1679 to 1682 and was Bishop of Cashel in 1727 but did not live to take charge of the archbishopric. His chief work consists of the Historical Library. This is a copy made by Miln in 1891 of the eighteenth century original, now in the possession of the college but then in the possession of Nicolson's family in Co. Tyrone.
