The only son of Kenneth Og, 4th Earl of Seaforth, and known as William Dubh. His early life was passed abroad but like his forebears he took up arms for the Stuarts and was present at the Battle of Sheriffmuir. An Act of Attainder was passed against the Earl in 1716 and his estates were forfeited. He followed the Pretender into exile but returned to take part in the Spanish landing on the West Coast in 1719 during which he was severely wounded but escaped to France. He received the royal pardon in 1726 but the Earldom had lapsed under the Attainder. He died on the Isle of Lewis in 1740 and was buried there.
