The sitter faces slightly to his left, wearing a long curled wig, a lace stock at his neck. He wears a cuirass (plate armour) with a ridge down the breast plate. On his left breast he wears the star of the Order of the Garter. The bust is supported by a faceted socle.

An inventory of Knole dating from 1765 lists two busts of William III in the Terrace, possibly referring to this bust and NT 130069, however there are no busts of William III listed in subsequent inventories. Charles Sackville, 6th Earl of Dorset was made a Privy Counsellor, Lord Chamberlain in 1689 and Knight of the Garter in 1692 during the reign of William and Mary. This favoured position at court would explain the presence of busts of William III at Knole.
