A figure of a First World War soldier in battledress, holding a rifle in one hand and with his other arm around the shoulder of a young girl. The statue stands on a tall square pier. There are bronze plaques on three sides of the pier and carved shields set in cartouches. The south side has a laurel leaf circle to the head of the plaque. The pier stands on a wide square base with railings which are supported by bulbous shaped posts. The base is panelled and has low, ramped buttresses on the west and east sides, the ramped tops of which have carved decoration.
