A tall cross (of sacrifice) with a medieval-style bronze sword inset on its front face stands on an octagonal plinth. This is in front of and central to a semi-circular recessed wall bearing nine panels listing the war dead of the City during the Great War of 1914–1918 and subsequent wars. The recess is terminated by a stone pillar into whose fronts are carved stone wreaths.
