An Ionic column in Aberdeen granite, grey marble and sandstone, with a square base and chamfered plinth. On the top is a bronze figure of a Boer War soldier standing to attention in uniform typical of the period. There are two stone lions at the base. The bronze model of the locomotive designed by F. W. Webb, formerly at the base of the monument, has been removed and is used for special displays in the Borough of Crewe and Nantwich.
