The church of St Hilary seen here, was the fifth to stand on the site and it served the parish from 1757/1760 until it was burned own in 1857; only the 1530 tower survived. Harold Hopps based the painting on an old photograph. Wallasey Old Hall, or Wallasey Manor House, was built by the Meoles family in 1604. The Hall stood in Church Hill, just below St Hilary’s church and the site is now occupied by the New Rectory, the Hall having been demolished in 1862 shortly after the church. On the left is the Old Rectory; there has been a Rectory at St Hilary’s church from at least 1530, when it was a thatched house. This house, built of sandstone, was erected in 1632. After some alterations and changes of use, the Old Rectory was sold into private hands to be restored and rebuilt as a private residence.
