Giorgio de Chirico
1888–1978
Italian painter, sculptor, designer, and writer, the originator of *Metaphysical Painting. He was born at Volo in Greece, the son of a railway engineer who was working there, and had an old-fashioned training at the Athens Polytechnic, 1903–5, followed by a year at the Academy in Florence, 1905–6.
