Alphonse Legros
1837–1911
(b Dijon, 8 May 1837; d Watford, 8 Dec. 1911). French-born painter and printmaker who settled in England in 1863 (encouraged by Whistler) and became a British citizen in 1881, although he never acquired fluency in English.
