Vercingetorix (82 BC–46 BC), chief of the Arverni, wears the legendary winged helmet of the Gauls. This statuette is inspired by the equestrian monument to Vercingetorix triumphant at Gergovia in Clermont Ferrand, designed by Auguste Bartholdi in 1865. Vercingetorix's left leg is missing below the knee as well as one wing of his helmet; his sword was probably broken off at the hilt but has been repaired. Fine detailing is visible on the reins.
