This painting depicts the High Street during the Victorian/Edwardian period by a local artist who died in 1994. The High Street was a main road between London and Oxford in the thirteenth century. At the corner where it crosses Windsor Street can be seen St Margaret's Church. The building of this church began in 1245 during the reign of Henry III and was completed during the War of the Roses. The church is well known for its beautiful hammer beam roof and is the oldest building in Uxbridge.
