Elizabeth Adams is a former student on the BA Hons Fine Art degree at SSU. She lives in Surrey and continues to work as an independent artist. This work was purchased from her degree exhibition in 2006. She says of her work: "My work explores the idea of the unknown, immeasurable distances and voids. What happens outside what we can measure, what worlds lie in the infinite beyond? My paintings are other worldly, they do not belong somewhere we can understand. This world is not one we know – it is beyond human comprehension. Ambiguity is important to my work; my paintings are ambiguous in form, content, and creation. There is a notable absence of brush marks and obvious paint application. I feel that it is the viewer’s decision as to where they believe they are and what they sense they are experiencing.
