The painting depicts a United Nations post in Polis, north-west Cyprus, staffed by the 3rd Battalion of The Royal Anglian Regiment. Two paintings were commissioned by the Battalion from artist John King, who travelled to Cyprus in 1970 to sketch scenes from life and completed the pictures on his return to the UK. Originally on display in one of the Battalion messes, this painting, Polis, passed to Regimental HQ and thence to the Royal Anglian Regiment Museum.
