During the 1980s Milroy began working on her ‘object’ paintings, in which she depicts rows of everyday objects set against neutral, and often white, backgrounds. The objects, which range from light bulbs to women’s shoes and ancient Greek vases, are given no context and the interpretation of the works remains open. Lisa Milroy was shortlisted for the Jerwood Painting Prize in 2001.
