The cap and stem of this fungus is primarily yellow with plum coloured scales, more dense on the cap than on the stem. Its colouration has given it the common name "Plums and custard". It smells strongly of rotten wood and is found on or close to the rotting tree stumps of conifers. It is common throughout the summer and autumn and is considered edible though not recommended.
