Half-length, three-quarter right side portrait of Thomas Stothard RA, an elderly man with white hair, wearing a dark jacket and white neckerchief. The background is dark with cracked patches of paint in the top left corner. His subject was a fellow artist: a painter, illustrator and engraver. John Jackson himself was a prolific portrait painter.
