This work was exhibited with the London Group in 1916, and in 1926, on sale for £20. Ratcliffe later sold it to Lewis Falk, who had been inspired to move his embroidery business to Letchworth after hearing Ebenezer Howard talking about how ‘this new town was to be a Utopia of clean, pure air, flowers and perpetual sunshine’. A label on the reverse gives an address as 122, Wilbury Road, home of Norman Deuchar, who remembered Ratcliffe painting ‘some of his good work in a studio which later became part of my cottage in Wilbury Road.’
