Helen Cochrane was born in Bath and spent much of her married life in Italy. Her husband had health problems, and they believed that the warm Italian climate would be good for him. She produced many paintings and drawings of the scenery around their villa, ‘Rezzola’ on the Ligurian coast. Helen Cochrane enjoyed observing the landscape, architecture and daily life on the streets of the area.
