Owen Bowen was born in Leeds and his artistic talent was nurtured from an early age; exhibiting and selling paintings from 1888. He had a studio in Leeds and painted in the Staithes area, eventually renting a cottage at Robin Hood’s Bay. From this base he participated in the Staithes Group of artists and the Staithes Art Club. He was also a member of the Wharfedale group of painters who exhibited at Rochdale Art Gallery in 1928.
