A remarkable woman, Flint was instrumental in establishing an art gallery in Walsall. She also became Mayor of Walsall at the age of 82. She was also a practising artist and the gallery owns many of her works.

This charming painting depicts a walled garden with vegetables and flowers. Traditionally segregated, it can actually be advantageous to combine vegetable and flower plots because certain ‘companion plants’ attract beneficial insects whilst repelling others. Nasturtiums are a good example; they are often grown as companion plants for broccoli and cauliflower.
