The race horse 'Camel' was so prized by his owner, John Theobald, that he refused an offer of 5,000 guineas for him.

'Camel' was one of the most successful horses owned by John Theobald, winning at races including Newmarket in 1825. He is then said to have brought Theobald a regular income as a stallion, siring winners like 'Touchstone' and 'Cotherstone'. A print of this painting identifies Cooper as the artist.
