A depiction of the Presentation of the Christ child at the Temple and the sacrificial lamb offering made by the Virgin Mary as an act of purification. Standing in the centre-left foreground is the figure of Mary, seen in profile facing the right, holding out her lamb offering. Standing before her is the elderly figure of Simeon, forward facing with his head inclined downwards towards the Child he cradles. Behind the Virgin, to the left, is seated a female attendant; standing behind a column are the partially obscured figures of two women dressed as nuns, one of whom might be Anna, the prophetess. In the centre background is the altar behind which stands the figure of the High Priest holding a pigeon for sacrifice. Behind Simeon, to the right, are two male attendants.
