Two objects with significant historical links to the history of Walkerburn – the Old Mill Bell date stamped 1885, on loan to the council, and the 'Wee Man', formally part of the town's war memorial. Both were made for other purposes and placed on this new site as a commemoration.

plaque: WALKERBURN - THE OLD MILL BELL AND "THE WEE MAN" ON THE LEFT IS THE ORIGINAL STATUE FROM THE WAR MEMORIAL. CONSTRUCTED IN 1921 BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION, IT IS SMALLER THAN LIFE SIZE AND BECAME KNOWN AS THE "WEE MAN" . IT REMAINED IN PLACE AT THE WAR MEMORIAL FURTHER UP THE ROAD UNTIL IT WAS STOLEN ON 9TH AUGUST 1998. A NEW STATUE WAS AGAIN FUNDED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION AND THIS LIFE SIZE REPLACEMENT DEDICATED BY HRH THE PRINCESS ROYAL ON MONDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER 1999, NOW OCCUPIES THE WAR MEMORIAL. THE "WEE MAN" WAS FOUND AND RETURNED ON 3RD FEBRUARY 2000. FOLLOWING RENOVATION, AGAIN FUNDED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION, IT WAS PLACED ON THIS SITE ON 2ND dECEMBER 2001. THE MILL BELL COMES FROM THE ORIGINAL WALKERBURN MILL, IT WAS RUNG TO SUMMON WORKERS TO THE MILL AND TO SIGNAL LUNCH BREAKS AND THE END OF THE WORKING DAY. THE BELL IS ON LOAN TO WALKERBURN & DISTRICT COMMUNITY COUNCIL FROM ROBERT NOBEL LTD. OF PEEBLES. THIS MEMORIAL SITE WAS FUNDED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION AND WAS DEDICATED BY MISS MOLLIE MCINTOSH MBE, CHAIRMAN OF THE WALKERBURN & DISTRICT COMMUNITY COUNCIL ON 9TH AUGUST 2002. THESE TWO ITEMS REPRESENT A SIGNIFICANT PART OF WALKERBURNS HISTORY AND THIS SITE IS FOR THE BENEFIT OF RESIDENTS OF THE VILLAGE PLUS ALL THOSE NOT YET PRIVILLAGED TO LIVE IN WALKERBURN
