The central design of this Masonic painting is King Solomon with a temple to his left. Many of the Masonic ceremonies centre on the biblical story of the building of Solomon’s Temple. In the background is a group of Freemasons. The painting is based on an engraving of the same name by William Tringham, dating from 1755. Elements of the design were also reproduced on Masonic membership certificates, ceramic bowls and tankards.
