A cream marble sculpture on a circular green marble base, depicting the head and shoulders of an anonymous young woman holding a small sleeping baby against her right shoulder. Her dress has a lace edge which has fallen back to reveal her left shoulder. She also has a cloth covering most of her hair, which she holds around the baby. The work is finely carved, particularly the cloth partially covering the baby's face.
