A miner sitting on a rock, with a Davy lamp at his feet and his legs crossed. He rests his head against the prop hammer held up to his ear. He wears a cloth cap and boots from around c.1900. The sculpture commemorates the mining heritage of the area. It was carved by hand from Yorkshire sandstone supplied by Woodkirk Stone and installed with the assistance of building firm Oates Construction Ltd.
