In this painting, the seated Madonna is depicted on the left with the Christ Child lying on her knee. Next to her is Saint Stephen with a martyr's palm as he was the first Christian martyr. In the middle is Saint Jerome with an open book as he translated the Bible into Latin. On the right is Saint Maurice, in armour with a red flag, the commander of a Roman legion of Christian soldiers from Egypt who was put to death with all his men.

This is a workshop copy of Titian's original of around 1520. There are two versions of the original work, one in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna and the other in the Musée du Louvre in Paris. This picture is smaller in size and the figures are therefore more crowded together. However, scientific analysis suggests all versions were executed within a short period, this painting presumably by Titian's assistants.
