A pretty girl in green blouse and brown dress is seen ironing in a shaft of sunlight from a window. To the left on the wall is a hat and to the right, on a chest of drawers is a vase of flowers. The artist studied under the French academic painter Delaroche. His paintings are mainly interiors of cottages and workshops and it is clear from this every-day, darkly lit composition, that he was heavily influenced by Dutch seventeenth-century painters like Rembrandt.
