'The Haaf Netter' refers to an ancient fishing method used since Viking times where fisherman stand up to the waist in tidal water with nets across the flow to catch anything swept along. It has been the subject of some controversy, with some locals unhappy about the positioning of the salmon, saying it is suggestive. The head was stolen during restoration work in 2019 and since then the statue has had a traffic cone, football, parrot's head and even a pig's head temporarily placed on it by pranksters. The work was removed from the site in December 2020.
