This artwork depicts The Forresters' House at the top of Broad Street in Stirling, next to the ruined building Mar's Wark. It was once the home of George Buchanan.

James Stark Fleming was born in Glasgow. He is said to have been trained as an architect, probably in Glasgow, but no work as an architect is recorded. He is best known as a watercolour painter and Stirling architectural historian.
