The fisherman in this painting is James Watson (aged 78), retired skipper of the 'Beintime', the family boat catching lobster and crab from Crail. Before the Second World War he used his boat 'The McConnachie' to take visitors on the short trip from the harbour to Roome Bay for 6d (2½p).

Sybil Seath was a local amateur artist.
